Pinchas The Sedrah of Pinchas is usually read during the 21 days of the Three Weeks when we mourn the loss of Eretz Yisroel and the Bais HaMikdash. There is a concern that out of the great pain one should experience during these Three Weeks because of our loss, we might fall into a depression. For this reason we learn about all the Yomim Tovim now, that we should remain in a state of joy and hope for the future. The Three Weeks are called "Bain Hametzarim" - between the bounds - because in the Sedros we read are discussed the boundaries of Eretz Yisroel and of each of the Shevatim. The "bounds" were set. With the coming of Moshiach, the Seventeenth of Tammuz will be the first day of Yom Tov and Tisha B'Av will be the last day of Yom Tov, the days in between will be the Chol HaMoed. May we merit to see Eretz Yisroel in its entirety returned to us. R' Avrohom Kamai the son of R' Elya Bloch of Mir entered into a bookstore on the day before Tisha B'Av to buy a Kinos. He haggled over the price before finally buying the book. "Rebbe," said the bookseller in astonishment, "since when have you started bargaining? Every other book you have bought was at the quoted price. Answered R' Avrohom, All the other books I will use for all time, even after Moshiach is here. However the Kinos I buy today, I do not expect to have to use next year, because by then Moshiach will for sure be with us. May we merit to see it and not use the Kinos yet this year. |
